BE A PART OF INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS WEEK!

The annual International Awareness Week sponsored by the KU International Student Association (ISA) is approaching, April 12-19. We need everyone to help make this a successful week. Please let the contacts know if you are interested in representing your country at any or all of these activities. Deadline to register for participation in all events is Thursday April 12th.

If you can't help, then please plan to attend and bring along all of your friends. All events are FREE to attend!

CALENDAR OF EVENTS:

SATURDAY (April 12) "ISA WORLD CUP SOCCER TOURNAMENT"

9:00 a.m., Schenk Fields

- Teams from different countries will play each other in 8 on 8 tournament for championship (trophies and respect!!!! Contact - rperea@ku.ed

MONDAY (April 14) "OPEN MIC NIGHT"

7:30 p.m., Kansas Union Jayhawk Room (Level 5)

- Everyone is welcome at chance to win a big $100 prize gift certificate for best performance either comedy or poetry. The winner also gets to perform at "Festival of Nations". Contact - clarice1@ku.edu

TUESDAY (April 15) - "BORN INTO BROTHELS" International Movie

7:00 p.m., Kansas Union Woodruff Auditorium (Level 5)

-An inspiring Academy-Award winning film documenting the journey of photographer Zana Briski and the children of prostitutes from Calcutta's Red Light District. Briski gives the children cameras and teaches them to take pictures, helping them view their world with new eyes and find beauty in unlikely places. (In Bengali with English subtitles). WEDNESDAY (April 16) - "INTERNATIONAL FASHION SHOW"

5:30p.m., Kansas Union 4th Floor Lobby

- Featuring fashions from around the world. We need people to model and show their traditional clothing. Contact - maheensarah@ku.edu

THURSDAY (April 17) - "WORLD EXPO"

12:00 Noon - 5:00 p.m., Kansas Union Ballroom (Level 5)

-Each country will have a table to showcase their country with displays, pictures, books, and music. The campus community as well as kids from the entire Lawrence area will come to the Union to learn about the world. We want as many of the 112 countries at KU represented as possible. - This is the most important event. We need help from everyone. Don't let your country be left out! Contact - fana@ku.edu

FRIDAY (April 18) - "56th ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF NATIONS"

7:00 p.m., Kansas Union Woodruff Auditorium (Level 5)

-International variety show featuring dancing, singing, displaying, comedy, speeches, and other entertainment from around the world. Do you have a talent you would like to share?

After Party in the Kansas Union Ballroom following the show, learn how to Salsa dance and live music of the band "Son Venezuela" (co-sponsored with SUA). Contact - aavila@ku.edu

SATURDAY (April 19) - "FLAVORS OF THE WORLD INTERNATIONAL POTLUCK PICNIC"

Noon - Centennial Park Shelter (west of Iowa on 9th St. behind Bucky's building)
