  • F-1: Change of Program, Degree Level, or Funding

    Your SEVIS Form I-20 indicates:

    • degree program or major (school/ department);
    • degree level (bachelor's, master's, PhD, other) ;
    • funding source and amount;
    • full name.

    If at any time there is a data change, a new SEVIS Form I-20 is prepared by ISSS.

    Change of Program or Major
    This process is usually initiated by the student. Once the request has been processed by the appropriate school (i.e. School of Engineering or College of Liberal Arts & Sciences) or a department (i.e. EECS), recorded in PeopleSoft-SAKU, upon receiving the data ISSS will automatically create a new I-20. Student will receive an email when the new I-20 is ready to be picked up in ISSS office, Rm 2 Strong Hall.

    Change of Degree Level
    Student must gain admission into new academic program (i.e. Language Training to Bachelor's, Bachelor's to Master's, Master's to Doctorate). Appropriate proof of finances must also be submitted to either ISSS or the Graduate School before a new I-20 for change in education level is issued. ISSS strongly recommends that this process be completed early so an I-20 can be issued prior to the beginning of the appropriate semester. The change in education level event creates a new "Initial" SEVIS record/I-20. Once the student has enrolled at the new education level, the Initial record will be registered and updated to "Active-Continued Attendance." Note: It is important that you keep all SEVIS I-20s issued to you. You should keep these documents in a safe place. If any of these documents are damaged, lost, or stolen, it is your responsibility to have them replaced as quickly as possible.
