J-1:Change of Program, Degree Level, or Funding

Your DS-2019 indicates:

  • degree program or major (school/ department);
  • degree level (bachelor's, master's, PhD, other);
  • funding source and amount;
  • full name.

If at any time there is a data change, a new DS-2019 is prepared by ISSS.

Change of Program or Major: This process is usually initiated by the student. Once the request has been processed by the appropriate school (i.e. School of Engineering or CLAS) or department, recorded in PeopleSoft-SAKU, upon receiving the data ISSS will automatically create a new DS-2019. Student will receive an email when the new DS-2019 is ready to be picked up in ISSS office, Room 2 Strong Hall. Change of Degree Level Student must gain admission into the new academic program (i.e. Language Training to Bachelor's, Bachelor's to Master's, Master's to Doctorate). Appropriate proof of finances for the entire program must also be submitted to either ISSS or the Graduate School before a new DS-2019 for change in education level is issued. ISSS strongly recommends that this process be completed early so a new DS-2019 can be issued prior to the beginning of the appropriate semester.

Note: It is important that you keep all SEVIS DS-2019s issued to you. You should keep these documents in a safe place. If any of these documents are damaged, lost, or stolen, it is your responsibility to have them replaced as quickly as possible.
