Health insurance coverage is mandatory for all international students, regardless of course load, enrolled at the University of Kansas. This requirement will be enforced by automatically placing an "insurance indicator" on students acounts, which will be removed upon purchase of a standard school plan or submission of a waiver of the requirement according to the guidelines below. This indicator will be visible in the "holds" section of your on-line account, but it will not in fact block any of your university activities such as enrolling or adding/dropping classses.
If you do not purchase KU insurance or obtain approval by January 31st, a hold will be placd on your student account that will prevent future enrollments and block both transcript and diploma issuance. Please do not miss the January 31 deadline!
Within certain guidelines, students are free to obtain other coverage with other providers or to continue with an existing insurance provider if minimum coverage criteria (specified below) is met or exceeded. The intent of the insurance requirement for international students at the University of Kansas is continuous coverage during and between academic terms. For more information, see Waiver Process.
