Transfer Student Timeline

If you plan to begin your studies in the Fall semester as a transfer student, this is the timeline of application activities.

September - December

  • If in the USA, schedule a visit with KU's Campus Visit Coordinator by calling (785) 864-3911, register online at: www.admissions.ku.edu/visit or e-mail visit@ku.edu.
  • Apply for admission to KU (see Admissions Requirements & Deadlines). Apply online or mail a paper application.
  • Learn more about transfer credits or AP/IB credits:

  • Register for TOEFL or IELTS & request official scores be sent directly to KU:

January - April

  • January 15: Final deadline for eligible students to apply for ISSS admissions scholarships for Fall semester. All required application materials must be received in our office or postmarked by this date.
  • F-1 or J-1 students, if you have been admitted and issued your SEVIS document, register with SEVIS and apply for your student visa.
  • February 1: Phi Theta Kappa scholarship deadline. See http://www.iss.ku.edu/admissions/scholarship.shtml. All required application materials must be received in our office or postmarked by this date.
  • Create your KU Online ID. You must use your seven-digit student ID number found in your admittance letter to get your Online ID.
  • If you plan to live on campus, sign an online contract with student housing for on-campus housing. More information and sign-up dates can be found at the Student Housing website.
  • Request that your college or university send official transcripts directly to ISSS Admissions Office
  • F-1 students currently studying in the USA, request that your current schools Designated School Official complete the Intent to Transfer Form.
  • F-1 or J-1 applicants outside the USA, after you have been admitted and issued your SEVIS document, register with SEVIS and apply for your student visa.
  • After obtaining visa, make your travel plans.
  • Read the KU Pre-Arrival information, which was mailed to you or online at our pre-arrival page.

May

  • May 29: Official Report Date for Summer 2013 on I-20/DS-2019

June/July

  • Have your college or university send your final transcript directly from the institution to ISSS.
  • F-1 students currently studying in the USA, request that your current schools Designated School Official complete the Intent to Transfer Form.
  • F-1 or J-1 applicants outside the USA, after you have been admitted and issued your SEVIS document, register with SEVIS and apply for your student visa.
  • After obtaining visa, make your travel plans.
  • Register for KU ISSS Orientation information.
  • June 4: First Day of Summer 2013 Classes

August

  • August 14: You At KU International Student Orientationbegins
  • August 19: Official Report Date on I-20/DS-2019
  • August 26: First Day of Fall 2013 Semester Classes
