Susan Mercer joined the Institute in September, 1996. She became the Associate Director in 2008.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all Institute operations.
  • Administers the IPSR Scholars Program.
  • Manages Financial and Human Resource operations for the Institute.
  • Designs and conducts focus group research.

Current Areas of Research


Through focus groups and guided interviews, Mercer conducts evaluations and assessments of programs and policies. Recent projects include an evaluation of the Kansas Department of Commerce, an assessment of the technical training needs of the Lawrence community, and an assessment of the IT workforce in the Kansas City metro area.
