Field Based Technical Assistance

The Inclusive Network of Kansas (INKS) is available at a fee for service for students receiving special education services in the state of Kansas. Any school district personnel may request INKS' services by mail, through email to the Project Coordinator, or by completing an online request form available on the project's website. Requests for individual student consultations may be submitted or programmatic requests for a classroom or content area. (Click here to submit an online request form)

What happens when a request for an individual student consultation is made?

Before Consultation

  • The school/district makes a request to INKS by online, e-mail or phone to Project Coordinator.
  • Coordinator gathers initial information to determine whether the request falls under the auspices of the Network. If the request in not a match for INKS, the Project Coordinator suggests other resources.
  • When it is an INKS request the Project Coordinator gathers additional information needed in order to select a Field Based Consultant (FBC). Required information for a student consultation includes: Site Team Description Form and Parent Consent Form and the student’s IEP. Required information for a programmatic request includes: Site Team Description Form.
  • The Project Coordinator matches the request with a FBC and sends required information to the FBC. Matches are based on geographic location, expertise and availability.
  • The Project Coordinator notifies the requesting school or district as to which FBC has been assigned to their request.
  • The FBC contacts team members, including parents, and gathers any additional information needed. The FBC sets a time for consultation to occur and sends the team a Technical Agreement for Consultation. - Student Technical Assistance Agreement Example
  • The Technical Agreement for Consultation is signed by the team members and returned to the FBC before the initial consultation occurrs.

During Consultation

  • The FBC observes the student in the learning environment.
  • The FBC may model and/or teach strategies used or suggested.
  • The FBC meets with the educational team, including parents, to discuss observations and review suggestions.
  • Together the team and the FBC develop an Action Plan to address the priority steps and tasks needed to postively impact learning.- Action Plan SPP codes form, student Action Plan example
  • The FBC and the team will determine the next steps for the consultation and list these steps on the Action Plan, as needed.

After Consultation

  • The educational team members and FBC will work to address the action items agreed on the Action Plan and maintain contact with the FBC.
  • The educational team will return the evaluation forms to the Project Coordinator.
  • The FBC returns required forms to Project Coordinator.
  • When additional consultations occur, During Consultation and After Consultation steps continue.
