IMSD Program Components
Research
The program matches KU students with a faculty mentor in their field of interest. They complete research projects in conjunction with the mentor, and present the results of the project at local and national symposia. The program is designed to achieve greater participation in the biomedical and behavioral research enterprise of this country of students from underrepresented groups.
Mentoring
Students are provided, in addition to research mentoring, guidance towards the completion of their baccalaureate degrees. Academic advising includes academic feedback and planning and career exploration.
Special Coursework
Participants enroll in program sponsored seminars. These are designed to prepare participants for graduate study and research. Topics may include professional presentation of research, application to and preparation for graduate school, ethics in biomedical research, and GRE preparation.
Program Activities
IMSD students participate in activities including services designed to prepare participants for graduate study, an annual research symposium, and opportunities to enhance academic skills. Travel support to discipline specific conference/symposia is also provided.
