Upward Bound
The University of Kansas Upward Bound Program is a federal grant funded through the Department of Education. Upward Bound serves rising 8th graders- 12 graders that are low-income and/or First-generation college students who express a desire to pursue a postsecondary education. KU Upward Bound serves students in Wyandotte, Douglas, and Shawnee counties.
The program is mandated by the department of Education to serve 76 students in the academic year and 50 students in the summer. The Academic Year program provides: academic advising, tutoring, campus visits, financial aid workshops, parents workshops, and career fairs. In the summer, the program sponsors a six week residential summer institute that offers classes Monday –Thursday on the KU campus. In addition, Upward Bound also has a summer institute for the graduating seniors to attend KU for four weeks and earn 6 college credit hours.
The program assists the youth in the state of Kansas in achieving a postsecondary education. Upward Bound provides the support and resources to the students to ensure they are prepared for college.
