Topeka CARES
Topeka CARES has worked to achieve its overarching goal of building quality preschool programs that help young children reach their potential in the area of language and early literacy development. To ensure sustainability of the progress achieved by Topeka CARES, KU evaluators plan to build on existing teacher competencies by devoting time to professional development in assessment areas. KU evaluators propose to train teachers in the use of the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS-PreK), a criterion-reference measure that will serve as a screening and progress monitoring instrument.
