Kansas Consortium for Youth Voice

The Kansas Consortium for Youth Voice is a unique youth group targeting statewide efforts.  The Consortium has experience a rapid evolution and expansion.  It began with one youth at the Kansas DropINs summit Wichita and has now captured the interest of over 80 youth and solicited an adult leader at each school site.  The Consortium has engaged the community at every point possible through service-learning projects, professional development, attending meetings and just getting its name out.

The Kansas Consortium for Youth Voice will use technology to identify the needs of the communities in which it is involved.  It plans to continue utilizing social networking sites, specifically Facebook, to share widely the ideas and opinions of Kansas's youth on potential service opportunities and thoughts on how to approach change in the community.  The group on Facebook has discussion walls where members can post problems and ideas.  During the past year, discussion topics have included a "to do list" of organization goals and "The Ideal Newspaper" which would give voice to youth concerns through print.
