KANTELL: Kansas Teachers for English Language Learners

KANTELL is a 5-year professional development project whose goal is to empower southwest Kansas teachers in their work with students who are learning English as a second language (ESL).  KANTELL affords teachers in southwest Kansas the opportunity to enroll in coursework for the Kansas ESOL endorsement by delivering a distance-learning program that targets secondary-content teachers.  In addition, an instructional coach conducts frequent classroom visits with participating teachers to provide further individualized support as they translate the ESOL endorsement curriculum into daily action in the classroom.  KU KANTELL staff also supports pre-service students at the University of Kansas by offering enhanced advising and assisting with tuition for courses that result in the obtainment of an ESOL endorsement.
