Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention
Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) programs are funded by the Children’s Bureau to provide states with resources to build a strong base of support for families and communities in child abuse prevention. CBCAP is authorized by the key Federal legislation addressing prevention in child abuse and neglect - the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA).
Kansas designed a Peer Review Model to increase accountability and credibility of application of funds, provide feedback to programs and funders, and target areas for technical assistance for CBCAP grantees in the State. The Institute has developed a Peer Review Model that incorporates several data sources as an additional evaluation tool for the CBCAP grantees. The Kansas Peer Review Model is a comprehensive process designed to develop staff capacity as evaluators, to determine the efficacy of the program, and to support staff in ongoing quality improvement efforts.
Through a strategic planning process, early childhood and child welfare stakeholders developed a comprehensive, statewide plan to serve as a framework for supporting and strengthening all families in Kansas with young children. The resulting Kansas Strengthening Families Plan expands the scope of prevention beyond programs funded by CBCAP to coordinate efforts and maximize resources for prevention in Kansas.
