Center for Restorative Education Evaluation
Center for Restorative Education (CRE) is based on a restorative justice model developed by the International Institute of Restorative Practices located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The purpose of the CRE is to provide services for students that have become long term suspended, expelled, or are otherwise unable to maintain in a traditional school setting. Most students attending the program are struggling with issues related to substance abuse, anger and impulse control, mental illness, and behaviors that can be violent and disruptive to their home and school environments. The program’s goal is to restore each student’s ability to function within a traditional or alternative school and earn their high school diploma. The program accomplishes this by providing services and interventions that address the behaviors and conditions related to their academic failure while maintaining their education and academic credits.
Two main goals of the evaluation include: 1) evaluating the effectiveness of the CRE program on school attendance, academic progress, graduation rates, and socio-emotional well-being; and 2) documenting the existing evidence-base of program components and evaluating implementation and model fidelity for replication.
