Educational Opportunity Programs

The Institute has committed itself to extending broad educational support to the youth and adults of all segments of its community. The Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP) are part of that commitment. The Educational Opportunity Programs support a wide spectrum of learners and provides educational information, counseling, academic instruction, tutoring, assistance in applying for financial aid, and supportive encouragement to both students and their families.

Programs

APEX GEAR UP
The GEAR UP program is a federally funded program (U.S.D.E) designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

Educational Opportunity Centers
The Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) is a federally funded program that serves low income and first generation individuals who need assistance with enrolling in a GED program and postsecondary educational program of their choice.

Educational Talent Search
Educational Talent Search, a pre-college TRIO Program funded by the U.S. Department of Education, assists middle and high school students in completing secondary education and preparing for college.

GEAR UP
The University of Kansas School of Education GEAR UP Programs are federally funded programs whose mission is to greatly increase the parrticipation in undergraduate programs.

Harvest of Hope Leadership Academy
Harvest of Hope Leadership Academy is a summer residential program on the KU campus that provides leadership development and college preparation for high school students eligible for migrant education services.

Math and Science Center
The KU Upward Bound Math and Science Center is a TRIO college preparatory program for low-income/first generation high school students in Douglas, Shawnee, and Wyandotte counties.

McNair Scholars Program
McNair Scholars Program assists low-income, first-generation and underrepresented undergraduates to prepare for doctoral study. Students in this program are provided with paid research opportunities, faculty mentors, and GRE preparation assistance.

Supportive Educational Services
Supportive Educational Services is a federally funded TRiO Program known nationally as Student Support Services. Our goal is to assist eligible students to obtain their undergraduate degrees.

Upward Bound
Upward Bound, a pre-college TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education, assists students in completing high school and preparing for college.

Veterans Upward Bound
The University of Kansas Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is an education and skills program designed specifically to serve the educational needs of today’s veterans.

The Institute exists to assist School of Education faculty in their pursuit of external funding and to serve the State of Kansas. Major programs areas are:
