Educational Talent Search sends high school student to Washington

The University of Kansas Educational Talent Search will send high school sophomore Michael Munoz to Washington, D.C., for 6 days in June for the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) Student Leadership Congress.

Munoz was selected out of 400 high school students who are participants in the KU Talent Search Program in Wyandotte County, Kan. He was chosen because of his active participation in this TRIO College Preparatory Program, strong leadership skills, positive attitude and spirit.  Munoz joined Talent Search in sixth grade at Eisenhower Middle School in Kansas City, Kan., and now attends Sumner Academy.

While in Washington, Munoz and 100 other students from across the country will participate in a variety of activities designed to teach them about constitutional rights, education concerns and immigration issues. He also will meet with Kansas state legislators during a Mock Congress. He and the other students will stay in residence halls at American University and will have the opportunity to explore historical sites and do community service.

Educational Talent Search, a pre-college TRIO Program funded by the U.S. Department of Education, assists youth and adults in completing secondary education and preparing for college. This free program offers activities designed to help participants reach their fullest academic and personal potential.

The Institute exists to assist School of Education faculty in their pursuit of external funding and to serve the State of Kansas. Major programs areas are:
