It's the Field of DREAMS - College DREAMS!

What did you do over Spring Break??  Thirty-eight 7th and 8th graders, along with two High School Peer Helpers and three KU Talent Search staff members, headed to Iowa for a chance to visit two colleges and learn more about how to succeed in college! Students listened to dynamic admission presentations, toured the college campuses, and met college students.  Both the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA and Wartburg College in Waverly, IA welcomed the KU Talent Search group with open arms!  Students asked great questions, gained a better understanding of the college access opportunities that are available to them, and what they need to do now (as middle schoolers) to prepare for college!  This two-day college trip gave the students a change to strengthen their skills and knowledge about college.

Many of these students will be the first in their family to go to college and many come from low-income families from Wyandotte County, KS. Having opportunities like this Spring Break College Tour can further enhance their dreams and goals of going to college!  KU Talent Search Program is not only planting the seed for these young students but is also watering the seeds as these students progress through middle and high school.  At the end of this college tour, many of the students were eager to start college tomorrow!!  They definitely came away from this trip with more excitement and more information about the steps to reaching their college dreams.

The KU Talent Search Program is a college preparatory program for 6th – 12th graders who live in Wyandotte County.  Talent Search is a federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered through the University of Kansas.
