Use of copyrighted material within Blackboard
|
|
U.S. copyright law protects all "original works fixed in a medium of expression." Therefore almost all published material and electronic material is copyrighted even though a copyright notice is not visible. Only works that are in the public domain can be used freely. Not sure if something is in the public domain? Look here: http://www.unc.edu/~unclng/public-d.htm The copyright law gives to the copyright holder exclusive rights, including the right to copy the work. The best way to avoid a copyright violation for electronic material is to provide a hyperlink to the material where it exists. This should always be your first choice. If you want to use a copyrighted item in your class, please answer the following series of questions: How did you obtain the copy you want to use? (click on your answer)
