  Blackboard is a web-based course management system that allows instructional
materials to be easily delivered via the Web. It includes threaded discussions,
file sharing, e-mail, chat, gradebook and other tools.

  I. SETTING UP AN ONLINE BLACKBOARD COURSE SITE AT KU:
    Any instructor may obtain a Blackboard user account and course site(s) by
attending a 2 hour Blackboard Tools and Strategies workshop. You may
either sign-up online, or call IDS at (785) 864-2600.

  At this online course instructors can read step-by-step instructions, view
video tutorials, and access other resources/examples.

If you've attended a Blackboard workshop previously you should already
have access to this course site from your "My Courses" list once you login to
Blackboard.

If you have not attended a Blackboard workshop before, you may still visit the
Using Blackboard: Tools and Strategies site via Guest access by following
the instructions below. Once an instructor does complete a Blackboard
workshop he/she will be automatically added to this course as a regular
participant.
   
  To access as a guest:
    1. Go to https://courseware.ku.edu.
    2. Click on the “Course Catalog” button.
    3. Type “IDS” in the “Search” box.
    4. Locate the course titled “Using Blackboard: Tools and
    Strategies” and either click the link or the “Preview” button.

  At this online course instructors can review 3rd party software that further
enhances the Blackboard experience. Information that is shared includes a
description of the software, a link to the company website, an online
demonstration, and actual examples of products created with the software.
Some of this software is licensed university-wide, others are available only at
IDS, and others are free to download. Contact IDS for more information.

   II. STUDENT'S GUIDE TO BLACKBOARD:
    IDS has put together a Student's Guide to Blackboard which contains
information on finding your courses, using the various tools, updating
personal information, and much more! This guide can be viewed by
clicking here.
     
  III. INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO CLIPS FOR STUDENTS:
    You will need the RealOne media player to watch instructional video clips. If you don't already have it installed on your computer, you may download the free, basic player at http://www.real.com (look for the link in the upper right hand corner).
