About HHLA

The Harvest of Hope Leadership Academy (Kansas HHLA) is a 3-week summer residential program for migrant-eligible high school students that will take place June 8-June 29, 2008 on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence. 

Mission

  • To empower and support migrant high school students as they increase their academic success, leadership skills, and college preparations
  • To provide opportunities for students to work together with culturally-sensitive instructors and staff
  • To familiarize students with the college environment and increase their confidence and ability to navigate the steps necessary to successfully complete high school and enter college.

Activities

  • Academic enrichment in Science, Language Arts, Math, and Electives
  • Access to credit-recovery through PASS
  • College exposure, career exploration, leadership development and civic involvement
  • Recreation, cultural events, fieldtrips

The Kansas Harvest of Hope Leadership Academy is one of many Educational Opportunity Programs that operate through the Institute for Educational Research and Public Service in the School of Education at the University of Kansas. The Educational Opportunity Programs are under the direction of Dr. Ngondi A. Kamatuka.  Kansas HHLA is funded by the Kansas Migrant Education Program, a part of the Kansas Department of Education.
