Purpose: Institutional proposals (those proposals that must be submitted through the KU Center for Research, Inc.) require substantial amounts of time and often involve many participants on and off campus. Due to the highly competitive nature of external funding, success with institutional proposals often requires multiple applications to be submitted before the project or program is funded. Thus, the process of revising and resubmitting is crucial to competitive success. The Revise and Resubmit Incentive Fund intends to support faculty applicants during the proposal revision process.

In order to encourage scholars in the humanities, arts, and humanities-oriented social sciences to revise and resubmit promising institutional grant applications, the Hall Center will provide up to $10,000 to assist applicants with resubmitting an institutional proposal. The funds may be used for expenses associated with undertaking the revision and resubmission process, such as: summer salary, travel expenses, course buy-out (with departmental approval), or purchase of materials. The Humanities Grant Development Office will work closely with those awarded the fund to revise and resubmit their proposals.

Eligibility: Those eligible to apply for the Revise and Resubmit Fund must:

1. Be a tenure-track or tenured faculty member in the humanities, humanities-oriented social sciences, or arts disciplines;
2. Have submitted an institutional proposal that was not funded between July 1, 2010 and the present (Fiscal Years 2011 and 2012);
3. Intend to revise the application based on agency reviewer and peer comments and resubmit to the same agency within two deadline cycles following the notice of non-award; and
4. Resubmit the institutional application through the Humanities Grant Development Office with KU as the primary institution (if application involves collaboration with another institution).

While not a requirement for eligibility, applications that are wide in scope and/or collaborative in nature will receive special consideration.

Applicants can request any amount up to the full $10,000; however, awards may be made for less than the requested amount.

DEADLINE: May 11, 2012, by 5:00 p.m.

APPLICATIONS WILL CONSIST OF:
1. A signed cover sheet (attached);
2. A copy of the granting agency's current grant proposal guidelines;
3. A copy of the full unfunded application;
4. A copy of the agency review panelists' comments (if provided by the agency);
5. A 2-page work plan for proposal revision, detailing the nature of the revisions to be undertaken, a timeline for resubmission, and explanation of how the fund will assist this process; and
6. A budget (on attached budget form) showing how you plan to spend the requested funds.

Submission procedure: Please submit one copy of all items, collated in the order above and not stapled, to The Hall Center for the Humanities, 900 Sunnyside Ave., Lawrence, KS 66045 by the deadline. Applications can be dropped off in person at the front desk or sent via campus or US mail. Mailed applications must be delivered to the Hall Center by the deadline.

Contact: If you have questions about this application, please contact the Hall Center's Director, Victor Bailey (vbailey@ku.edu; 785-864-7822) or Interim Associate Director Sally Utech (sutech@ku.edu; 785-864-7823.)
