Kansas History Online is a research and educational project of the Hall Center and the Kansas State Historical Society.
The Hall Center for the Humanities (HCH) is a designated research center at the University of Kansas with purpose-built facilities dedicated to the advancement of its mission. The Center's mission is two-fold, to stimulate and support research in the humanities, arts and social sciences at the University of Kansas; and to engage the university and the wider community in dialogue on issues that bring the humanities to bear on the quality of life for all citizens. Its public outreach is thus designed to engage the community in understanding our past, present and future, our values and identities and the essential issues we face as individuals and communities.
Our facility is available on a rental basis to HCH affiliated groups and organizations. Groups not affiliated with us may rent the facility, but only if the event is co-sponsored with the Hall Center. Priority in scheduling is given to Hall Center events and staff availability. Approval of a similar event in the past does not mean a new event can be accommodated. HCH facilities may not be used for personal events, and charging admission fees to attend events hosted at the Hall Center is prohibited. The fee structure (see below) is designed to ensure the Hall Center can adequately secure, supervise and administer events held in the building. Please note that the facilities at the HCH are available only for events that further the Center's mission.
ROOM INFORMATION
The W. Clarke Wescoe Conference Hall is located on the main floor of the Hall Center for the Humanities. It can seat 90 people theater-style or 70 people at round dinner tables. Please note that if the event requires special set-up such as additional tables for food and/or beverage service, space for servers or the use of the piano, you should adjust downward the maximum number of people who can be accommodated in the Conference Hall.

The Lynwood H. Smith Seminar Room is located on the second floor of the Hall Center, which is accessible by the main staircase and via the elevator at the west end of the building. It can seat 14 people at the conference table and an additional 6 to 10 people in chairs around the sides of the room. (Please note that the use of audio/visual equipment may reduce the number of people who can sit comfortably in the Seminar Room.)

Requests for use of HCH Facilities must be made at least thirty (30) days in advance of the proposed event. Please send all requests in writing to HCH Associate Director Jasonne M. Grabher at 900 Sunnyside Avenue, Lawrence KS 66045; via email at jasonne@ku.edu; or by fax at 785/864-3884. All requests should include the following information:
If the event is approved, HCH Program Administrator Jeanie Wulfkuhle (785/864-7826, jeaniew@ku.edu) will send out a copy of detailed HCH Facilities Use Policies and Procedures and an Event Reservation Form. After reviewing the policies and procedures, the event sponsor's authorizing official must complete and sign the reservation form and return it to the Program Administrator within ten (10) days of receiving the form. If the completed and signed form is not returned within 10 days, the date for the event will not be reserved. (Note: on the form, the sponsor must designate one individual as the single point-of-contact who will communicate with the HCH. This will help to avoid miscommunications between the sponsor's staff and HCH staff.)

Staffing for All Events Held Outside of Normal HCH Business Hours
HCH staff will arrive one hour prior to the event, and will remain until all non-HCH personnel have left the building.
*One Full-Time Staff Member at $25.00 per hour
*One Student Staff Member at $10.00 per hour
All fees are determined by event category and services provided. HCH staff, one student and one full time staff member, are required at every event. The sponsor must arrange and pay directly for all equipment and staffing not provided by the HCH (ie catering, additional audio/visual, etc). The HCH will not be responsible for payment of any expenses incurred by an outside group or organization hosting an event at the Center.
For KU sponsors, fees will be billed after the event and based on actual services provided. Four payment options are available: SOV, Endowment funds, KUEA Fund transfer and KUCR funds. If paying with state funds, sponsors must submit an SOV number with the estimated fee for the event. If paying with KU Endowment funds or other funds, an invoice will be sent to the sponsor.
For non-university groups, an invoice will be sent after the event.
