There Is a Revolution Going on in Salina with International Consequences!
New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)

Tue., Apr. 9, 2013, 8:00am - 4:00pm
Location: The Land Institute, Salina, Kansas

We will visit The Land Institute where Founder/President Wes Jackson and his team of scientists and researchers are on a mission to transform agriculture and develop sustainable perennial crops.  On our tour of the farm we will see the field crops being developed, and the wonderful new building which houses laboratories, greenhouses, and storage in tornado-proof rooms for the precious seeds being developed.

In 1992 Wes received the MacArthur "genius" award, and in 2005 he was listed in The Smithsonian Magazine (with Bill Gates, Frank Gehry, YoYo Ma, etc.) as one of 35 individuals who have changed our world.  Distinguished KU Professor Donald Worster said Jackson has created something that has a worldwide audience.  Chuck Magerl, owner of Free State Brewery and Wheatfield's, has attended the annual Prairie Festival there many times and says, "Wes manages to intertwine everything from genomes to soils science to philosophy in a way that is always entertaining."   And our own Dr. Phil Godwin who travelled with us some years back, said he had no idea this high level work was being done here in Kansas.  He was impressed with the accomplishments thus far, and wants other Kansans to know as well.
