Federal Debt and Deficit Spending-An Economist's View
New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)

Mon., Feb. 24, 2014, 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Location: Watkins Community Museum, 1047 Massachusetts

Dr. Stephanie Kelton, Chair of Economics, UMKC will present an economist's view of the U. S. Government's debt and deficit spending practice.  She will address such questions as where does money come from and why is it so hard for the Federal Reserve to fix the economy; how can U. S. interest rates stay low even as government deficits rise; and why does the U. S. continue to avoid a European-style debt crisis.

Stephanie Kelton, PhD, is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  She is also Editor-in-chief of the top-ranked blog "New Economic Perspectives."  Her book, "The State, The Market, and The Euro" (2001) predicted the debt crisis in the Eurozone.  She is a regular commentator on national radio and television.
