Considered one of the leading historians of the modern world, Gilbert?s works on Churchill include: Churchill: A Life, Winston Churchill?s War Leadership, Winston Churchill: The Wilderness Years, and Churchill?s Political Philosophy. He has also written widely on both world wars and Jewish history.

During World War II, Gilbert lived in Canada as part of the British program to protect children from the German aerial bombing known as the blitz. After the war, he attended Highgate School before studying modern history at Magdalen College, Oxford. He was knighted in 1965 for services to British history and international relations.

A wine and cheese reception will precede the event at 6:00 p.m. A book signing will follow the presentation. Admission is free, but reservations are strongly recommended. Call 816.701.3407 to secure a seat.
