What Does a Liberal Society Owe the Disadvantaged?

This interdisciplinary lecture series, organized by Derrick Darby and Rex Martin of the Philosophy department, will explore the question "What Does a Liberal Society Owe the Disadvantaged?" This is a question of pressing public concern as the gap between the well off and the disadvantaged is larger than ever, as is the gap between rich and poorer nations. A society with an abiding commitment to freedom and equality cannot simply ignore social inequality. Adequately addressing the question will require the labor of humanists, social scientists, legal theorists, public policy makers, and many others.

Co-sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and IPSR.
