Water and Kansas History
New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)

Mon., Nov. 8, 2010, 10:00am - 11:30am
Location: Lawrence Public Library

Water has had a profound impact on the settlement of Kansas. Eastern Kansas, with its abundant surface water and relatively scarce groundwater, has different settlement patterns, industry and culture than western Kansas where surface water is scarce but groundwater is abundant. Rex Buchanan will discuss the role of water in the settlement of the state, both historically and in the present day.

Buchanan is Deputy Director of the Kansas Geological Society. He received his BA from Kansas Wesleyan, his MA in the History of Science and MS in Agricultural Journalism, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
