The coal that covered Southeast Kansas drew laborers from over fifty ethnic groups, leading to a mixture of traditions, languages, and political ideals. Discover the harsh circumstances these miners faced, the political ramifications of their working conditions, and their bids to organize in unions. Using illustrations, this presentation examines the trials, tribulations, and the lasting impact of the coal industry on Southeast Kansas.
The program on Kansas history is one in a series from the Kansas Humanities Council. The expert presenter is Randy Roberts, Curator of Special Collections and University Archivist, Pittsburg State University.
