New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)
Thu., Oct. 13, 2011, 4:00pm - 5:30pm
Location: Spencer Museum of Art
The Spencer Museum of Art has a large collection of historic objects from the Plains Indian tribes and this show will present a small selection of objects from the period 1880 to 1930. The exhibit will also include pieces from the Potawatomi from our collection and perhaps some objects borrowed from the Gilcrease Museum to be able to insure artistic representation of each cultural group. Alongside the historical materials, five contemporary artists from descendant American Indian communities that were relocated out of Kansas will present work that reflects on place and identity and specifically on objects included in the Passages exhibition.
