George Wendt is a company executive whose life has grown stale with a daughter of little help to anybody, a son-in-law who is a freeloader, and a wife who is getting up there in years.

Bernadette, bothered by unexplained fatigue, sees her doctor, and to her shock learns she is pregnant.  Despite his many complaints, George is genuinely taken aback when Bernadette announces that she is leaving him to move to Boston and have the baby by herself.  Of course, it all ends well.

This Broadway play opened at the Playhouse Theatre in 1962 and ran for 1007 total performances.  The film version was released in 1965.
