New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)

Wed., Jan. 20, 2010, 10:00am - 11:30am
Location: KU Continuing Education, 1515 St. Andrews Drive
At his small workshop in Lawrence, Douglas Marples can be found making his handcrafted violins, violas and cellos. A graduate of the University of Kansas and the University of Kansas Medical Center, Mr. Marples has an interesting story to tell about his career path. His presentation may include a history of the violin family instruments, and overview of construction techniques, a discussion of theories, fact and myths about what makes some violins superior and a summary of violin making around the world. Mr. Marples will be glad to evaluate your old family instrument at the conclusion of the program if you would be interested in bringing it along.
