New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)

Mon., May. 2, 2011, 10:00am - Thu., May. 12, 2011, 11:30am
Location: Studio 804 Warehouse, 3813 Greenway Circle

Studio 804 is a capstone graduate-level class in the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at KU.  In less than five months, students create a building from initial concept through design, construction and finish work. It's called a "design/build" experience in which the students literally do it all.  Since 1998, Studio 804 has built affordable housing in Lawrence and Kansas City, Kansas. Recently, they have developed "green" structures for the redevelopment of Greensburg, following the devastating tornado there in May 2007.

Professor Dan Rockhill founded the class in 1995 and provides guidance to the students, although as he says, " the students do everything."  Professor Rockhill will explain the purpose of this class, how the projects are selected and describe the intense commitment of the students who make this a unique, remarkable experience at KU.
