Humanities Lecture Series

Thu., Feb. 10, 2000, 12:00am
Anna Deavere Smith's topic Snapshots: Glimpses of America in Change is a compilation of her previous award winning performance pieces that included Fires in the Mirror, a chronicle about the 1991 clash between the Jewish, Black, and Muslim communities in New York's Brooklyn borough and Twilight, which explored the social geography of 1992 civil unrest unleashed in Los Angeles by the first verdict in the Rodney King trial.

Smith is renowned for her brilliant blending of lecture, journalism, and performance into what the MacArthur Foundation called "a new form of theater," when it awarded her one of its prestigious "genius" grants in 1996.
