All Aboard! Two Kansas City Icons:  Kaufman Center & Union Station
New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)

Mon., Apr. 2, 2012, 9:30am - 4:00pm
Location: Bus departs from the Lied parking lot

Stop #1:  Kauffman Center For The Performing Arts

We will meet at the Lied Center parking lot to board a bus for Kansas City and the Kauffman Center.  It is a truly world-class music and performing arts center and has been rated one of the best of its kind in the world. At this time, the Kauffman Center does not have an event on their schedule so we will have the state-of-the-art building to ourselves to tour the entire building including both theatres!

Stop #2:  Pierpont's

Dubbed the culinary jewel of Union Station, we will enjoy lunch at the famous Pierpont's restaurant.  Named after one of the most prominent people in railroad history, John Pierpont Morgan, Pierpont's is known for its stunning architectural features.  The space looks much like the original building did in 1914.  Sixty percent of the restaurant's three-story structure is historical space, including the original women's smoking room, the women's waiting room, and the women and children's waiting room.  Pierpont's was selected as the best architecturally designed restaurant as well as the best place to take out-of-town guests.

Stop #3:  Union Station

After lunch a Harvey Girl will lead us through this historical building and treat us to an exclusive tour of Union Station. We will go back in time to the station's opening in 1914 and follow its track through history to present day. Discover the remarkable stories of Union Station and learn how this unique landmark created history.
