A Musical Evening with Randy Klein

Special Events

Fri., Oct. 14, 2011, 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: Hall Center Conference Hall

Please join Randy Klein and an ensemble of accompanying musicians for an evening of musical entertainment. Klein has selected music from his extensive catalogue to fit the musicians playing with him, including a violinist, vocalist, trombonist, and guitarist. The selections are culled from some of Klein's more eclectic compositions, ranging from instrumental duets to theatre pieces, as well as an excerpt from his in-progress song cycle Speak.  Klein will also debut the work-in-progress video for the original composition "New Jersey" from Flambé Dreams, shot by the KU Film Department under the direction of Madison Davis Lacy.

Klein's corpus includes performances in various ensembles, including Two Duos, Solo Improvised piano, and a quintet. He has won four Southern Regional Emmy Awards and is the winner of gold records for songs recorded by performance artists. His musical repertoire includes solo piano improvisations, jazz compositions with and without lyrics, songs for musical theatre shows, music for children's educational TV, music for film and documentaries, R&B, pop, country and novelty songs, and improvisational synthesizer works.

Klein is the 2011-2012 recipient of the Simons Public Humanities Fellowship, which brings individuals of experience and accomplishment from outside the university to the Hall Center and KU to participate in the intellectual life of the university for a period ranging from one month to one semester.
