A Morning with the Great Plains Writers Group
New Generation Society of Lawrence (NGSL members only)

Tue., Feb. 11, 2014, 11:00am - 12:30pm
Location: Watkins Community Museum, 1047 Massachusetts

We all look back to our formative years, which seem to linger even when more recent times fade from our thoughts.  We examine the days of our youth in the hope of discovering how the children we were became the people we are now.  Many of us have thought about writing these stories down.  Others just love a good story.

This program will introduce the importance of personal memoirs as they reflect a broader landscape of community and the modern history of Kansas.  Included will be a short history of the activities of the Great Plains Writers Group.

Participants of the Great Plains Writers Group range in age from their mid-twenties to their mid-seventies and include all levels of experience and ability.  Since early 2011 they have supported each other's writing using workshop techniques, writing prompts, and rotating presentations on the elements of writing at their weekly meetings.

There will be readings from their recently published anthology, Echoes from the Prairie, or the previously published volume, Voices from the Great Plains.  These entertaining stories are diverse, compelling, and enjoyable.  Not to be missed!
