UNDERGRADUATE MAJOR AND MINOR REQUIREMENTS

Prerequisite for all listings below: completion of fourth-semester (GERM 216/217)

B.A. in German within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
A total of 30 credit hours in German courses numbered 300 and above, including:

• 2 composition courses selected from GERM 340, 344, and 348;
• 2 introductory literature courses selected from GERM 400, 408, and 416;
• 5 courses numbered 500 and above, including 2 literature courses, and
• 1 elective course numbered 300 and above.

Note: 12 hours must be taken in residence, including 6 hours in courses numbered above 500.

B.A. with Departmental Honors in German within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
In addition to the requirements for the B.A. above:

• 1 regular graduate level course (700-level) should be included in the 30 hours for the major;
• an honors research project (GERM 753) with a professor of the student's choice;
• an honors colloquium to discuss completed project with a committee of three professors;
• maintain overall g.p.a of 3.25 and 3.5 in German.

Minor in German (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences/ Engineering/ Journalism)
A total of 18 credit hours in German beyond GERM 216, including:

• 2 composition courses selected from GERM 340, 344, and 348;
• 2 introductory literature courses selected from GERM 400, 408, and 416;
• 2 electives from other courses numbered 300 and above.

B.S. in Business with an external concentration in German
A total of 18 credit hours beyond GERM 216, including:

• 2 composition courses selected from GERM 340, 344, and 348;
• GERM 352 Deutsch für den Beruf and GERM 462 The German Business Environment
• GERM 444 German Conversation for Everyday Use;
• 1 elective from other courses numbered 300 and above.

B.S. in Education with a German Major
A total of 24 credit hours in German beyond GERM 216, including:

• 2 composition courses selected from GERM 340, 344, and 348;
• 2 introductory literature courses selected from GERM 400, 408, and 416;
• GERM 444 German Conversation for Everyday Use;
• 1 course in German culture (GERM 588/ 590/ 620);
• GERM 630 Advanced German Grammar;
• GERM 712 Structure of Modern Standard German.

B.S. in Education with a German Minor
A total of 15 credit hours in German beyond GERM 216, including:

• 2 composition courses selected from GERM 340, 344, and 348;
• GERM 444 German Conversation for Everyday Use;
• 1 course in German culture (GERM 588/ 590/ 620);
• GERM 712 Structure of Modern Standard German.
