Deutsches Wochenende

September 15-16, 2006

The annual Deutsches Wochenende (German Immersion Weekend) of the Kansas
Association of Teachers of German was held at KU's Max Kade Center
September 15-16. Some 40 high school and college teachers in Kansas as
well as Gert Wilhelm, representing the Goethe Institute in St. Louis,
were in attendance. Presentations ranged from the culture and history of
Afro-Germans to documenting German settlement dialects in Kansas. The KU
Center for German Business Language was also introduced. The event
concluded with the German Department's Oktoberfest. Professor Cynthia
Appl of Baker University commented:

"This immersion event brought together educators from many levels of german
instruction. The program's variety made it both informative and entertaining.
The experience was further enhanced by the beautiful surroundings of the Sudler
house and auf der Wies'n."
