Please feel free to contact me for career insights.
I graduated from KU with a BGS in Geography and History in 1987. Determined to pursue a career in a GIS-related field, I started my post-university work in the Kansas City area with local governments and the private sector focusing on utility GIS conversions and applications. In 2000, I changed my focus to oil and gas transmission pipeline systems and I have found this type of work an even more challenging and rewarding GIS career. In my work I am often asked if I am engineer. I proudly answer, "No, I am a Geographer!
In the changing nature of GIS and technology, one must stay flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the markets, especially the global market. My advice to those working in this field that I most often give to associates and clients is the fact that although the software and applications change, the quality of the data that supports these systems is the most important long term investment.
With my 20 years in applying my Geography degree to my career, I don't have any regrets. It was the best way for me to apply my avocation to my vocation. Where else can I work on projects spanning the globe all in one workday! Feel free to contact me for career advice or job opportunities.
