I have two degrees from KU; a bachelor’s in business administration and a master’s in geography. After earning the business degree I never would have landed my first job offer without the experience of my geography courses. It’s that simple. Fortunately, I had taken a few geography courses as electives while working on the business degree. During the interview process (for a job in the energy industry) what really seemed to get their attention was that I had an understanding of the basics of the geography of energy. I’m guessing that all the candidates had a business background, but what set me apart was the geographical knowledge.

Although I have gone on to the academic world as a geography professor at Kansas State University, I still am able to clearly see the value of a geography degree in the business community, and I would be happy to talk with you about how to market a geography degree to potential employers. For those of you seeking academic employment, I would also be happy to visit with you or help with networking.
