M.A. Geography, 1980
Please feel free to contact me for career insights.
I have BA and MA degrees from the University of Kansas. I now have 27 years of experience applying GIS and Geographic analysis to real world problems. This includes academia, local and state government, industrial forestry, and (currently) transmission pipeline systems. In my current position, I lead a group of GIS Analysts in helping operators of transmission pipeline systems to more safely operate their large systems often traversing thousands of miles. Eagle Information Mapping provides software and services allowing these companies to build large, spatially based facility management systems. This information is then combined with other available data sources containing a wealth of information about the environment surrounding the pipeline in order to determine threats and analyze the consequences of a pipeline failure. There has never been a better time to seek a career in Geography, Cartograrphy, or GIS. The opportunites are many and varied and the work is v ery satisfying. At the end of the day, you can go home feeling like you really did do something to make the world safer and more environmentally secure. I would be happy to talk to students or current professionals about the diverse career opportunities available for Geographers in the Pipeline Industry or other application areas.
