Scott Patterson

B.S. Atmospheric Science, 2003

Please feel free to contact me for career insights.

: I work as a weather forecaster at the United Airlines operation center in the Chicago area.  I have been there for the past 2 years and love it.  In this position I produce 24-hour forecasts, on a daily basis, in TAF format.  I also participate in multiple conference calls on a daily basis with the FAA Command Center, airport officials, and other airlines.  Other duties include creation of winter, tropical, and convective graphics for impacts to aviation operations.  I work a 12-hour shift, 4 days on and then 4 off.

Prior to working here I worked in general aviation at Baseops International in Houston, TX.  This was a good starting job and allowed a quick period of learning about forecasting, learning about aviation and how to work as a meteorologist.

My current position at United Airlines is a great job. My company is always open to having interns.  This is an unpaid position, but you will learn a lot about being an operational meteorologist and so far, in my two years, we have hired one of the interns as a full-time meteorologist right out of college.

I can be reached at my email or you can call 847-700-3096 and ask for Scott.
