I am currently an Assistant Professor of Geography at American River College in Sacramento. We are a large community college with a very strong GIS program, which I coordinate. The teaching load is high (15 units/semester), but there are no expectations for research, publication, or grant writing.
We offer 15 unique GIS courses, and I teach 6 of them. I also teach field experience courses, such as my 10-day trek to Bryce, Zion, and Grand Canyons. Our courses are a real bargain for students, at $20/unit.
I am pleased to be a coauthor of Dr. Terry Slocum's best-selling cartography textbook: Thematic Cartography and Geovisualization.
I recall my days in Lindley with fondness, and am grateful for the high quality education I received there.
Cheers!
Hugh
