B.A., Geography, University of Kansas

Jeff currently works as a physical scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  He is a Space Weather Forecaster at the Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, CO.  As a forecaster he monitors the sun with a variety of research spacecraft in order to predict how solar flares, coronal mass ejections and other solar phenomena will impact the Earth.  Jeff is a graduate of the University of Kansas and hold a bachelor’s degree in Geography.  He graduated as a distinguished graduate from the Air Force ROTC program at KU and was commissioned into the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant.  His first assignment while on active duty was as a Nuclear Launch Officer in the missile fields of North Dakata.  He sat on strategic alert for two years before getting reassigned to the 4th Space Operations Squadron in Colorado Springs, CO.  While working for Air Force Space Command he held several positions including that of Satellite Vehicle Officer and Chief of Orbital Operations for the Milstar satellite constellation.  While in this role he led a team that successfully repositioned a 1.5 billion dollar spacecraft to a new operating location along the geostationary belt above the Pacific Ocean.  He also facilitated multinational level discussions to devise a plan to prevent the collision of collocated, neighboring spacecraft.  Jeff left active duty as a Captain and began working for a commercial remote sensing company called Digital Globe.  While at Digital Globe he managed the day to day operations of three remote sensing spacecraft and four remote tracking stations in Alaska and Norway.  Before taking his current position he managed the Black Island Telecommunication Facility located at 77° South Latitude in the Ross Sea of Antarctica.  Jeff can claim that he is a world traveler having lived on four continents and stepping foot on all seven.  He has a passion for traveling and loves to share his stories and adventures from abroad.  Jeff raced for the Air Force Giant Slalom Ski Team and has completed the Florida Ironman.  He spends his time exploring the backcountry of Colorado.  In addition to being an accomplished skier and triathlete he enjoys backpacking, kayaking, playing the piano and spending time with his beautiful wife and three children.  His best friend is his Golden Retriever, Myles.
I relish this opportunity to give back to the KU community and encourage you to contact me with questions about both the satellite industry and federal employment.
