Goals for English 203, 209, 210, and 211
1. Maintain and continue to improve the abilities gained in English 101 and 1022. Use multiple strategies of reading to develop interpretations of texts
a. Analyze textual details to develop an interpretation of the overall text
b. Identify and the generic features and structures of a text
c. Identify and explain the relationships among writers, readers, genres, and contexts
3. Demonstrate the ability to think critically about language, texts, and experience
a. Integrate previously held beliefs, assumptions, and knowledge with new information and ideas in the texts
b. Interpret texts to reveal how language can be used to construct a reality and sometimes to obscure or change a reality
4. Write in ways appropriate to the genre or theme of the course
a. Compose in a variety of genres (creative, analytical, evaluative, digital, etc.)
b. Address multiple perspectives (scholarly and otherwise) on a topic while clearly voicing your own
c. Effectively use critical terminology relevant to the genre or theme
d. Incorporate evidence, following the citation style particular to the genre
e. Make conscious choices about language patterns, diction, and style
