Students interested in petitioning for placement in an honors course should bring the following materials to Lori Whitten in 3001G Wescoe:
1. A cover letter stating why they want to be in an honors class and what qualifies them to be there (250-500 words) including contact information for the student
2. A recommendation from the teacher of their most recent English course in which they must have received (be receiving) an A
3. A paper from that most recent English course that demonstrates the student's writing ability
These petitions will be read by faculty members in the English department. Students may bring the petitions to the English Department at any time, but they will all be read by the committee during the week before the semester starts. Students whose petitions are granted will be contacted and given instructions for changing their enrollment. Students whose petitions are unsuccessful will also be notified of the outcome of their petitions.
