APEX
GEAR UP is a federally funded
program (U.S.D.E.) designed to increase the number of students from
low income families who are prepared to enter and succeed in post secondary
education. APEX GEAR UP is unique from other initiatives. This program
supports academic achievement of students attending 3rd to 11th grades
who are residents of the KCK Public Housing complexes.
Educational Talent Search serves
young people in grades six through twelve offering counseling, information
and college admissions requirements, scholarships and various student
financial aid programs.
GEAR UP Programs provide
an array of education services, career exploration activities and other
enrichment opportunities to students who attend Schlagle and
Washington High School Clusters in Kansas City, Kansas. The program works
with a student cohort from 7th grade through high school, with the goal
of preparing these students for postsecondary education.
Harvest of Hope Leadership Academy (HHLA) is
a 3-week summer residential program for migrant-eligible high school
students that took place June 7-June 28, 2009 on the University of Kansas
campus. The next Academy will be in June 2010.
Math
and Science Center helps students from low-income families strengthen
math and science skills. In addition, students learn computer technology
as well as English, foreign language and study skills. The services
and programs offered by the Math and Science Center allow students to
enhance and sharpen their analytical skills and provide a foundation
for success in math and science fields.
Upward
Bound helps young
students prepare for higher education. Participants receive instruction
in literature, composition, mathematics and science at KU on Saturdays
and during the summer.
