Departmental Awards & Scholarships

EEB Travel Awards

EEB graduate students are invited to submit to the department written requests for funds to assist with the costs of attending a professional meeting. The student must make an oral or poster presentation at the meeting in order to receive funding. The maximum award from the department typically will not exceed $300. In addition the student should have previously tapped (or be applying for) the travel funds available from Graduate Studies.

Applications should be directed to the department chair four weeks before the meeting and must include the following: (1) a letter or e-mail request that includes information about previous or concurrent Graduate Studies funding, the location of the conference, the dates of travel, a budget listing all expenses and identifying other sources of funding, (2) a brief letter or e-mail of endorsement from the student’s adviser, and (3) a copy of the title and abstract of the presentation. Entomology Summer Scholarships

EEB graduate students with a research focus in entomology are eligible to apply for summer scholarship funds available through the department’s entomology endowment. Recipients must enroll for the summer term. For more information contact David Alexander (5020 Haworth; 864-3370; dalexandr@ku.edu).

Botany Summer Scholarships

EEB graduate student with a research focus in botany are eligible to apply for summer scholarship funds available through the department’s botany endowment. Recipients must enroll for the summer term. For more information contact Christopher Haufler (7008 Haworth; 864-3255; vulgare@ku.edu).

University Awards & Scholarships

Madison and Lila Self Graduate Fellowship

New and first year domestic doctoral students may be eligible for KU’s Self Graduate Fellowship. This is a four year award consisting of an annual $24,500 stipend plus tuition and fee sponsorship. Graduate Studies Paper Presenter Fund

KU graduate students who will attend a professional meeting to present a paper are eligible to apply for a $400 travel award available through the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. Visit http://www.graduate.ku.edu/funding/travel/ppf.shtml for details.
