Why study theatre?

Because the world has stories to tell, and through analysis and production, we work toward a greater awareness of who we are, where we’ve been, and where we are going.

Undergraduate Programs

The department offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of General Studies degrees, as well as a minor in theatre. The program leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre design is offered cooperatively by the School of the Arts and the Department of Theatre.

Courses for Nonmajors

The department offers many courses open to non-majors who wish to learn more about theatre, including but not limited to THR 100, THR 106, and THR 380. THR 100, THR 106, THR 215, THR 380, and THR 404 fulfill a College principal course requirement.

Graduate Programs

The Department of Theatre offers graduate programs leading to a Master of Arts degree in theatre studies and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in theatre. In collaboration with the Department of Visual Art, the Department of Theatre also offers a Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre design with a concentration in scenography.
