The KU School of Pharmacy

Since its founding in 1885, the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy has been a leader in pharmacy education. Since 1996, the school has offered only the Doctor of Pharmacy degree as the entry-level practice degree. The curriculum gives the student the knowledge, skills, and ability required of the pharmacy practitioner; it is comprehensive and produces a highly competent general practitioner.

About 60 full-time faculty members teach in the undergraduate professional Doctor of Pharmacy program and in the graduate programs. 3 departments (Pharmacology and Toxicology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry) offer Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Pharmacy Practice offers the master’s degree.

Both the undergraduate and graduate divisions have outstanding national and international reputations based on the excellence and productivity of the faculty. KU is second in the rankings of schools of pharmacy that receive National Institutes of Health research funding. KU’s School of Pharmacy was awarded more than $22 million in research grants and contracts from the NIH in fiscal year 2009.

The School of Pharmacy is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, 20 N. Clark St., Suite 2500, Chicago, IL 60602-5109, (312) 664-3575, the official accrediting body for American pharmacy.
